European Journal | The Czech Republic: Celebrities Say it For the EU
The Czech Republic is set to take over the rotating EU presidency from France in January. The eastern European nation is expected to find France's ambitious goals a hard act to follow. It promises to be a difficult six months: President Vaclav Klaus is a notorious EU-sceptic, and the path to the ratification of the EU's Lisbon reform treaty remains strewn with obstacles. Nonetheless, a major advertising campaign has been launched to get the country in the mood, featuring images of famous athletes, models and musicians snapped by well-known photographer Herbert Slavik. Libor Pesek, one of the Czech Republicâs foremost conductors, was among the stars who posed for his camera.

European Journal | Greece - The Secret of the Aged
The name of the Greek Island of Ikaria supposedly comes from Icarus, who crashed to earth on his flight from Crete after flying too close to the sun, which melted the wax on his self made wings. In the Greek civil war Greek communists were often sent to internal exile on Ikaria. Mikis Theodorakis was one of them. But the rocky island still makes headlines today in the eastern Aegean. Every third resident reaches the age of 100. That statistic is unique in the world. The phenomenon has not been explained. Is it to do with the healthy diet...or the philosophy of sigar sigar...take it easy.

The Official Journal act by act is a way of facilitating your access to EU law.
‘Act by act’ means that as soon as an act is ready for publication, it is published individually as an authentic Official Journal.
The idea of publishing each Official Journal as a compilation of several acts is a legacy from the times of printed publishing, which today is neither needed nor useful.
This short video demonstrates how to use this act-by-act feature.
The EUR-Lex homepage remains your entry point to the Official Journal of the European Union, also known by the abbreviation OJ.
Here, you can see how many acts are available for the L and C series for the day.
Click ‘Official Journal’ to go to the page displaying the publications.
This is the page. Let’s have a closer look.
This page offers several options to find Official Journals.
You can run a search in different ways: by indicating a date range or specific references like the year of publication, the series and the document number of the Official Journal you are looking for.
The most recently published acts are also directly available in the list below.
The results of your search are sorted by dates and series. EUR-Lex indicates the number of Official Journals published for each series on a specific date. When you click one of the links you get the daily view of the related series.
For simplification, there are no more subseries.
Both the L and the C series of the Official Journal have a new dedicated page called ‘daily view’. This gives an overview of the latest Official Journals published on a given day.
You can access these pages from the homepage by clicking one of these two links … or from the left-hand side menu of any Official Journal page. Or by clicking one of the ‘Display acts’ links on the page ‘Access the Official Journal’.
The ‘daily view’ page gives access to the Official Journals on a specific date.
You can sort the Official Journals by:
- OJ structure: This is the view by default. It mirrors the structure and the layout of the table of content of the former Official Journal editions.
- OJ number.
- Publishing time.
To see an Official Journal, you just have to click its title.
By clicking the icon next to the date you can choose a new date and display the daily view of this new date.
The page ‘Browse the Official Journal’ offers new filtering options.
You can access this page from the left-hand side menu of any Official Journal page.
On the top of the page, two buttons let you display the Official Journals of the day or of the last 7 days.
You can also search all the Official Journals published within a specific range of dates.
On the left-hand side of the page, you can filter the Official Journals according to a wide range of criteria.
The filters on top of the list let you select Official Journals related to:
- Court proceedings
- Notices of EU competitions and other documents related to selection procedures
- sessions of, for example, the European Parliament or the European Economic and Social Committee
- [The filter ‘Thematic groups’ should not be highlighted at this stage]
- Specific topics such as COVID-19 or BREXIT.
The filters that correspond to selectable Official Journals in the results appear in blue. If they are grey, you cannot select them.
You can filter the Official Journals according to the series (L or C), the author and the type of act. Those filters are always active.
In the results lists, there is a folder icon followed by a link under the title of every document that is part of a session of the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
Click this link to access a list of all the documents related to this session.
In the past, to access the authentic version of an act, you had to look for the edition of the Official Journal in which the act was published. Then you had to go through it to find the act.
Now, the authentication is applied at the level of each act. To get the authentic version of an act, you only need to click on the relevant icon in the document page.
That’s it. We hope this video has been useful in demonstrating how the Official Journal act by act works.
